In mostra, visibili per la prima volta al pubblico italiano, oltre 100 tra le maggiori opere della UBS Art Collection dagli anni ‘60 ad oggi, di 91 artisti che raccontano uno spaccato di arte contemporanea toccando temi centrali come il paesaggio, il ritratto, la figura umana, l’astrazione.
La mostra si apre con un omaggio alla pittura tramite una fotografia di Thomas Struth in cui noi stessi, visitatori della mostra, guardiamo altri spettatori.
Da qui quindi l’idea del curatore Francesco Bonami: “Pensando a una mostra sull’idea della pittura, abbiamo riflettuto anche sul modo di trasformare l’esperienza stessa della mostra in un dipinto. Abbiamo quindi deciso di appendere i quadri sopra altri quadri. Usando come sfondo immagini degli spazi esistenti nel museo, con tutta la sua collezione. Ne consegue l’impressione di veder fluttuare i quadri, una particolarissima quadreria surreale, dove le opere abbandonano la propria fisicità e diventano ciò che sono, simboli contenenti immagini, storie e idee”.
