300 scatti che danno un’idea di cultura, di internazionalità, di amicizia, di intimità, di mondo, di democrazia, di bello, di moda, di musica, di colore, di bianco e nero, di arte.

Il PAC ospita, promossa e prodotta dal Comune di Milano Cultura e Tod’s, la fotografia di David Bailey, londinese, e lo fa con un allestimento arioso, che lascia spazio alle foto per essere guardate, riguardate e pensate.

Curata dallo stesso artista e realizzata in collaborazione con la National Portrait Gallery di Londra e con il magazine ICON, la mostra contiene una vasta serie di fotografie, selezionate personalmente da Bailey come le immagini più significative o memorabili della sua carriera, che ha attraversato più di mezzo secolo. Accompagna la mostra il catalogo, edito per l’Italia da Skira Editore, contenente un saggio di Tim Marlow, direttore alla Royal Academy di Londra.

Le foto hanno vari formati, alcuni colpiscono per le dimensioni, altre per la composizione. Il percorso scelto è tematico e non cronologico così da vivere un continuum tra le foto dell’East End londinese, quello glamour delle “Pin -Up”, i reportage in giro per il mondo tra le tribù della Papua Nuova Guinea, gli aborigeni dell’Australia, Sudan, India, le foto sicuramente più fashion di grandi attori, designers, attori, attrici, modelle….

Le foto sono moltissime, bisogna regalarsi del tempo per assaporarle, e poter passare così dai ritratti dei Rolling Stones e i Beatles, a Salvador Dalì insieme a Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon, ma anche ad una sezione delicata e intimista dedicata alla famiglia, ai perfetti sconosciuti del progetto “Democracy” portato avanti dal 2001 al 2005, agli still life …

Un allestimento che trascina nel mondo di Bailey attraverso la sua arte.

300 photographs which give the idea of culture, internationality, friendship, intimacy, the world, democracy, beauty, fashion, music, colour, black and white, art.

The PAC hosts an exhibition of photographs by the 77-year old Londoner David Bailey in a wide and airy space which allows for the pictures to be enjoyed and looked at again and again. It is presented and promoted by the Comune di Milano Cultura together with Tod’s.

The exhibition has been curated by the artist himself together with The National Portrait Gallery of London and the magazine ICON and contains a vast series of photographs, personally selected by Bailey, and are some of the most significant and memorable shots of his career which spanned over half a century. The catalogue of this exhibition, edited for Italy by Skira Editore, contains an essay by Tim Marlow, director of the Royal Academy of London.

The photos are of diverse formats, some strike you for their size, others for the composition. They are placed according to theme and not in chronological order to enable the visitor to follow the photos of London’s East End, then on to the glamour of Pin Ups, his round-the-world reports among the tribes of Papua New Guinea, the Australian aborigines, Sudan, India, the fashionable portraits of the most famous actors and actresses, designers and models …

There are a great many photographs, one needs to take time to enjoy them all, they range from portraits of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles to Salvador Dalì together with Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon, but also an intimate and delicate selection dedicated to his family, to perfect strangers of the “Democracy” project held between 2001 and 2005, and studies of “still life”…

This exhibition leads you into David Bailey’s world through his art.
