La Galleria Sozzani ospita fino al 6 aprile 2015 a distanza di 20 anni dalla prima mostra, un’esposizione che raccoglie cinque decadi del lavoro di Elgort, dal titolo “Arthur Elgort: The Big Picture”.
Ad Elgort si deve l’invenzione degli “snapshots”, nuovo stile di fotografia fresca e con pochi fronzoli che stravolse i dettami delle tecniche fotografiche di moda da allora in poi. Le modelle si muovevano in assoluta libertà davanti al suo obiettivo, le luci erano naturali, le sue giovani e belle modelle erano pochissimo truccate, si comportavano con vivacità e semplicità di fronte alla macchina fotografia e con naturalezza negli spazi aperti: strade urbane, piscine e spiagge.
Era nato uno stile nuovo.
Elgort dichiarò: “Alcune delle mie migliori immagini le ho riprese quando non stavo “lavorando”: le modelle che si stavano preparando, la gente nelle strade. Fugaci momenti fra le riprese. Quello è il momento quando si può catturare la gente come davvero è e vedere cosa si cela nelle persone. In quei momenti veri non si può imbrogliare.”
Galleria Carla Sozzani wishes to announce the Arthur Elgort exhibition: The Big Picture open until 6th April, 20 years after his first exhibition. The show encompasses five decades of Arthur Elgort’s work, including several original “snapshots”, a style Elgort introduced into the fashion photography vocabulary.
He was a breath of fresh air, wafting into the world of fashion photography with freely moving models, natural light, his young and pretty models wore less make-up, were more casual and lively in front of the camera, and moved about freely in outdoor locations such as city streets, pools, and beaches.
A new style was born.
As he writes: “Some of my best pictures were taken when I wasn’t “working” – models getting ready, people on the street, the little moments in between shots. That’s when you can really capture people as they truly are and see what’s underneath. It’s those real moments that just can’t be faked”.
